1. When your not blogging,  how do you spend your time?

I would like to be able to say that all my days revolved around me reading blogs and blogging and being creative but unfortunately that is not the case. I am still in high school, so that pretty much takes over my life with all the ridiculous amounts of homework we get. I also play varsity tennis and play all year round out of school as well. I love hanging out with my friends and I am really lucky that I have a really diverse set of friends so I am able to do lots of different crazy stuff with all of them! I love thrifting and reading British fashion magazines. My days are probably just the same as most other 16 year old teenage girls!

2. What was your original inspiration for Side Walks are Runways?

How have you seen it change over time?

I was an avid reader of an Olsen twin style forum thingy and one day someone posted a link to their own fashion blog. This was my freshman year of high school, so about two years ago, and I had never seen anything like it! I couldn’t believe that there were all these other girls {and some guys} out there doing their bit for the fashion world. I became hooked and decided that I wanted in on the fun!

I have seen it grow and change over time because I am constantly growing and changing and my blog is a reflection of that. I sometimes look back at my older posts and am amazed at how much my style has changed even in just over a year. I am at a point in my life where I am still changing and growing and experimenting and my blog is definitely a reflection of that.

3. What motivates you to continue  Side Walks are Runways?

There are definitely times when I want to give up blogging but the thing that keeps me going the most is that it’s so much fun! As soon as the fun factor leaves for me, there is no point in me doing it anymore. I love the people that I have met so far and the connections I have made with other bloggers. Plus I have started to receive some free things from companies so that’s a bonus! Plus it’s just so cool to be able to have people read my blog and see what I have to say about fashion. Its a really cool thing.

4. How important do you think the is blogger in the eyes of large fashion houses and brands?

I am not sure what the big fashion brands think of bloggers, I am imagine that at first they probably thought it was such a ridiculous thing. All these young girls with no experience criticizing their lines! But I think slowly they are coming to accept the fact that bloggers are so real which is what makes them so important. Obviously their are bloggers who are achieving such incredible fame and success through their blogs and big fashion houses are appreciating it and taking note of it. You just have to look at Rumi {from Fashion Toast} and the fact that she got to go to Ungaro’s show in Paris. Bloggers really are doing incredible things, so the fashion brands that arent paying attention better step up their game!

Jenny’s Personal Style

Personal:

Describe my style…hmmm this could be tricky. Whatever my mood is? I like to create characters in my mind and see what I can find in my closet to help me represent that character. My style is normally based around a couple of items that I am currently obsessed with. Right now its my Michael Kors blue wedges. Anything that goes with them…. thats my style.

Influences:

Style influences… My mum { i can always hear her voice in my head when I am trying something on}, the Olsens, bloggers, i love magazine ads because they are really creating a character to brand and I totally dig that, obviously runway shows, but also art and emotions and things i read and see. I like to think of myself as a dry sponge sucking all the influence and inspiration in that I can.

Favorite Shops:

My favourite stores are thrift stores, anywhere anyone. Cleveland {where I live} actually has some really good ones that I like to go to. I love Marshalls/T.J Maxx. I am definitely a bargain hunter. But I also love Saks and Nordstrom for occasional things…plus there shoes are amazing. American Apparel is obviously great. Lily Pulitzer always makes me want it to be summer. Topshop and Primark in England. H and M, Metropark…. the list could go on and on.

5 things you cannot live without:

5 items i could not live without….. my watch, my david yurman bracelet that I got for my 16th birthday, my raybans, my entire shoe collection, and the new denim dress I just got. ooo i defintely need more than 5 items!

Dying for this fall:

This fall I love my new jeggings… they look like jeans yet I can do yoga in them…amazing. I really want some sort of luxurious faux fur jacket, sequin pants like in the new Gucci ad, a black leather skirt, some more boots, lace tights, anything with ruffles, these really awesome suede wedges with leather fan detail from dolce and gabbana that are in the september british vogue… oh the list could go on and on.

What do you see in the future for Side Walks are Runways?

In the future for Sidewalks Are Runways, I see more fun… more creativity… more me expressing myself. Whatever is meant to be will happen.

What advice can you give to someone who wants to start their own blog?

For someone who wants to start their own blog my advice is DO IT but don’t be naive, not everyone is going to love it, that’s just a fact, but rise above their crap and just be yourself.

What caught my eye about Jenny…

Her sites’ motto:

“Dress for the life you want, not for the life you have

Which is how I have always dressed!!
