LAFW: Shows I Missed

I hopped around as much as I could during Los Angeles Fashion Week, but of course one cannot attend or am invited to all the shows.

I kept up with the shows via RackedLa and below are a few of things I wish I’d seen.

Flirty dress and gorgeous gowns from Ina Soltani graced the Style Fashion Week runway.

Science and Numbers showed during the Concept Shows. I love the leather arm cuffs.

Anh Volcek of L’une presented her fall 2011 line at Concept.

The Pride of LAFW:

Skin Graft Fall 2011

Skin Graft is one of the few LA based  lines that could show anywhere in the world and not appear out of place. The creativity, style, materials, fit are always awe inspiring.

Two Point Oh! To the Rescue!

The Fashion industry already shuns LAFW, for not having any real “talent” and organization. Well LA is a home to many talented designers, major premium brand names and large retail chains. Unfortunately, one LAFW event did fall victim to lack of organization.

A company called World Coast Management was supposedly set to organize a fashion show for a few emerging designers. Allegedly, the organizers did not file paper work properly and at the last minute shut down the show, leaving the designers who paid to participate in the show high and dry!

With Fashion Los Angeles gearing up for its big debut next spring, it only made sense to step in. With only 48hrs notice Fashion Los Angeles and blogging community Two Point Oh! Partnered and created intimate presentations so the designers would have the opportunity to showcase their designs.

Paulina Lopez, Michael Venedicto, Anh Volcek, Cynthia Ruiz, Daisy Gonzales, Jeff Warrington, and Kelsi Smith.

Displaced designers included:

The warm and bubbly Anh Volcek

Anh Volcek of L'une

Lʼune, French for “the one,” was established by Anh Volcek. Her SS2011 collection of dresses and separates combines European draping techniques with an updated American flair, offering women ultimate comfort and modern appeal. Before forming Lʼune in 2009, Volcek worked for some of the largest American brands such as Calvin Klein, Nautica, and the Gap. Before that, she also trained in Paris while working for couture houses such as Koji Tatsuno and Lapidus.

Paulina Lopez

Paulina López is a fashion designer based in Mexico City. Her brand, Paulina López, represents elegance, which is manifested in many of its avant-garde evening gowns and cocktail dresses. Paulina López is an innovative brand that appeals to women who like to take risks. Its SS2011 “Rainbow” collection draws inspiration from the femininity of Greek nymphs, thus many of its garments accentuate a womanʼs silhouette. Many of Paulina Lópezʼs pieces showcase handmade stitching techniques that add detail styling to fabrics and give garments unique shapes.

Daisy Gonzalez

Daisy Gonzales

Since the debut of her first collection in fall 2008, Daisy Gonzalez has already been acknowledged by some of the most influential people in the fashion industry. Among them, the infamous Patricia Field, who chose Daisy as the winner of her “Confessions Of A Shopoholic” contest and Project Runwayʼs Jerell Scott. Gonzalez regularly showcases her pieces at runway shows for some of the most recognized venues in Hollywood. She is a member of “Embassy of Fashion Designers International.”

Unfortunately, I was a bit tardy for the party, but I was able to get a closer look at L’une and see a few pieces that I wouldn’t mind adding to my wardrobe!

I love the neckline on this fitted maxi dress, very clean lines and smooth silhouette.

The feather shoulder on this dress adds a bit of drama to another well made and fitted dress.
