John Sakalis: Repeat wonder…
Project Runway season 6 alum delivered a show that so cohesive you could count the different fabrications on one hand… The collection was mainly made of 2 fabrics a russet tweed and a sheer metallic brown. These 2 fabrics comprised 90% of the show.

Great fit…

Same the tweed and metallic again….

Finally, a small break from the browns… But in a concept we’ve all seen before.
The CONCEPT shows were a group of runway shows to that featured smaller up and coming designers Fall 2010 collections.
Jen Award was the first show… Her 40′s and 50′s vintage inspiration ran throughout the show with touches of rock-a-billy… The show was extremely cohesive and you knew the designers point of view right away. But it was a little rocky, and the collection in its entirety can best be described as…
The Good the Bad and the OK
Lets start with the Good…

Jen Awad
Tailored vintage inspired dress.

Jen Awad
Great fitting sweetheart strapless cocktail dress. Love the cut-out on the jumper.

Jen Awad
Lovely rosette trim on the halter dress and collar he long sleeve mini dress.
The OK

Jen Awad Fall 2010
Classic pieces with a bit of rockabilly flair!
The Bad
I know that sounds harsh… But the following group of pictures have the same issue…
Great concept, over embellishment.

Jen Awad Fall 2010
Great fitting leather pant and western jacket but cheapened by the inexpensive looking pearl detailing.

Jen Award Fall 2010
Not only are the pearls over kill on the pink A-line dress are the dangling pearls on the white dress makes it look like a Halloween or Casino costume.
Overall, I enjoyed her show and look forward to seeing more from her. Check out

You may have notice a huge change over this past weekend. Ali took some time from enjoying the beautifully sunny weather to update the site’s layout!
I took part in several LAFW week events and was really beginning to put myself out there as the face of the site which inspired me to look into a few updates and tweaks.
I gave Alley a few ideas, and which went from 1 or 3 simple suggestions turned into a whole new fresh look.. and I’m loving it!!
New Features Include:
- Chic design layout: As much as I love how the pinks and blues popped at you… As the site matures I think Ali’s decision to use mainly a monochromatic layout with pops of color is a perfect!
- Wider reading panels: perfect for larger glossier photos!
- Search tap: Feel free to search for any random thing you may have read in the past!
- Better organization of tags and categories: easier for you to find related post!
- You may also like feature: help find related articles within Cake Not Coke!
Hope our readers like the new layout as much as we do!
If your not already a fan I urge you to take a look at Jazzi McGilbert’s blog!

Jazzi McGilbert
Whether it’s her ever so easy DIYs from straight off the runway, beautiful pieces of inspiration, keen eye for a great shoe or great contemporary style, Jazzi has something to share with everyone.
My favorite DIY: DVF Fall 09 Nomad Hat – Although I haven’t tired it yet.

DIY: Richard Nicoll Ribbon Cuff
She’s been blogging since 2006 (which seems like a lifetime ago to me); she describes herself as a creative spirit with a taste for style and hustle in fashion. She’s held internships at Teen Vogue, and has styled on shoots with a variety of shoots. Jazzi is starting to make her mark on the fashion industry.
Unfortunately runway shows aren’t as prevalent during LAFW. LA tends to host events and show cases. But I was able to check out the Designer Launch Pad Runway show at the California Mart hosted by the Focus Trade-show to help promote local upcoming designers.
The show featured Love Dragons Custom Lingerie, Mariska Los Angeles and Gia Lee. I enjoyed snooping around after the show to get a closer look at some of the lines. My favorite was a new jewelry line that launched 3 months ago as an extension of HStudio a contemporary design company.
“Founded in 1991 by the artist Shlomi Haziza, H.Studio brings a unique and contemporary approach to design, specializing in developing new techniques, creating custom designs, and working with our customers to offer truly exceptional pieces made by hand in our LA studio.”
I totally fell in love with these Lucite cuffs. Unfortunately, they are not available or shown on the site, but take a look at my gorgeous pictures.

HStudio Fashion
The cuffs come in 13 colors and 3 sizes. Easy to mix and match with other bangles and bracelets you already have.

I couldn’t decide which styles I love more: the Smokey frosted neutrals or the clear bright colors!
