The fashion world knows LA Fashion Week is kinda an oxymoron, but LA tries. Since starting this site I haven’t gone out and checked out any of the LA Fashion week/month events, CakeNotCoke.com has become a forum for me to share the wonderful things about fashion that I love, from shopping to runway; if I love it, it’s here!
So I’ve been playing with different ideas to give the site more of a personal touch… I am not exactly sold on outfit/look post, although I looked rather fierce for all my activities these weekend; including going to the tailor.
I thought writing and reviewing my personal experiences at LA’s fashion week events would be a great way to start! I received an invite to Box Eight Presents: Fashion Refocused, a 3 night event with different designers, photographers and a party each night! I was originally hesitant, but after reading the tidbit about the BoxEight events on Racked, I decided to RSVP and investigate!
Box Eight
Box Eight is a amazing photography studio in downtown LA. It doesn’t look like much from the outside, but the 12,0000 square foot studio/gallery has a lot to offer. The event was a pegged as a behind the scenes look at fashion photo shoots that will be featured in an upcoming 24-page supplement to Flaunt magazines November issue.

Box Eight Studio
Lex and I started the event with our first LA Fashion week faux pa, timely arrival! My office is close to the Box Eight studios, so he came by at the end of the day and we went right over… The event was slated to state at 6pm… 6:15 we arrive and the place looks like the event is tomorrow! So we found a corner to hideout until the event got started.
The event featured 5 designer photo shoot installations, 3 bars (my favorite part), 2 DJ’s and 1 skinny pooch named Odie. I was a bit shy about taking photos in the beginning, me and my digital… The pros and their serious cameras… But I did sneak a few pics in… Of the behind the scenes…

Love this orange organza gown…

Lloyd Klein
Llyod Klein was by far my favorite. The eccentric avante garde styling of the dramatic gowns made them the most fashionable of the lines I saw.
Some of the other designers and photographers included:

I definitely recommend checking out CorpusClothing,
the site picks up the labels vibe perfectly.
Overall, the event was more party then fashion. The few lines that had a presence where focused on the shoot, and you didn’t really have the opportunity to see what the labels had to offer. It was almost like it was a normal day at work and there just happens to be a 3 bars!
We didn’t stay late for the parties, but I hear it got crazy!
