Stand up Against Couture Abuse!!
I cannot stand the loose usage of the word “Couture”!
Time to Crack Down on Couture Abuse…
- Extreme Couture: Baby of a UFC fighter, more screen printed tees, hoodies and thermals! How many of these “labels” do we have to see?!? Just more skulls, crosses and scribbles! I think Douche Bags have enough to choose from the 5 Ed Hardy spin off lines! Will it die already!
- Chopper Couture: “Eco-friendly” Chopper/Rock and Roll Inspired “me too” graphic print label… We’ve seen it before… See Extreme Couture…
- Disney Couture: PJs, T-shirts, and Jewelry for the whole family!! Massed produced with your favorite childhood character! Because nothing says couture like a bedazzled Winnie the Pooh!
- Gilty Couture: Gold and Silver plated with Crystal accents, portable electronic covers… No explanation needed!
- Jesselli Couture: Former Kate Spade designer abuses couture by branding his Horrible Granny Handbags with it!
- Juicy Couture: Sorry! Although, Juicy is the closest to couture out of the previously mentioned lines, it still not technically couture. But if you happen to visit a Juicy flagship you will find an exclusive section dedicated to more high-end Juicy called Couture Couture!
For those of you who may not know what Couture means:
Cou·ture: Pronunciation: \kü-ˈtu̇r, -ˈtuer\ Function: noun
-Etymology:French, from Old French cousture sewing, from Vulgar Latin *consutura, from Latin consutus, past participle of consuere to sew together, from com- + suere to sew – more at sew Date: 1908
- French for “high sewing” or “high dressmaking refers to the creation of exclusive custom-fitted clothing.
- The business of designing, making, and selling fashionable custom-made women’s clothing
- The business establishments of such designers, esp. where clothes are made to order
- The clothes created by couture

OK Hillary,
With respect to “Couture abuse” there’s “Haute Couture” for the fashionistas – and just for the fun of it – there’s “Street Couture” for the people
But seriously, here is the couture elements used to create Canada’s fair trade eco fashion aptly named Chopper Couture:
1/ all panels used in Chopper Couture are hand-cut and sewn using eco-friendly textiles such as bamboo, Tencel (spun from sustainable beech wood pulp) with EU Flower Environmental Certification and organic cotton, all produced in a fair-trade environment.
2/ all graphics used in Chopper Couture are original artworks, individually artisan silk-screened by hand using organics inks totally free from PVC and carcinogenic Phthalates.
3/ all fabrics used for Chopper Couture are sourced and spun locally.
4/ all embellishments such as the CRYSTALLIZED™ – Swarovski Elements are individually artisan applied by hand. Chopper Couture is Swarovski Elements Canadian partnering brand continuing the Swarovski tradition of partnering with the world’s most creative designers.
5/ finally, Chopper Couture started out as an up market customized fashion (couture) for eight American custom motorcycle (chopper) manufacturers and have since evolved with five collections a year to become an ethical eco fashion so organic and so tasty that you can almost eat the clothes… (Just don’t forget to spit out the Swarovski crystals
Cheers!

PS. It would be interesting to find out what exactly the “couture elements” are in the five other “couture brands” that you listed.
